How Does An Air Purifier Help With Vaping
Second hand vaping is just as harmful as second hand smoking especially for young kids. Using an air purifier can help protect your family while still letting you enjoy your vape.
Air purifiers work a lot like vacuums. A fan sucks up the vapor from the vape pen just like a vacuum sucks up dirt.
The filter will trap any harmful chemicals and not let them out. You can think of a filter like the part of the vacuum that holds all the dirt.
Then the fresh air is released back out. Your family will be kept healthy from all the toxic chemicals floating around in the air.
Why You Need An Air Purifier For Vaping
Did You Know...
A CDC study found that 40% of people think second hand vaping doesn't do much harm to others and 5% think it does no harm at all!
Nader Nakleh, D.O says "Vaping and secondhand vaping is just as dangerous".
I'm not saying you shouldn't smoke your vape but you should try to protect your loved ones. Second hand vaping can do just as much damage as second hand smoking.
Especially if someone in your house has asthma or other lung conditions.
An air purifier will make sure those chemicals don’t affect everybody else.
What To Look For In An Air Purifier For Vaping
Before you choose an air purifier that will completely OBLITERATE the smells and harmful chemicals from vaping you should be looking for these important features.
Air purifiers power is rated on a scale To figure out their power called Clean Air Delivery Rate or CADR for short. The CADR rating will tell you what the air purifier is good at removing.
Two factors come into play when using the CADR rating scale. Filter efficiency and air flow through the filter are both tested to figure out the rating.
The higher the CADR the better because vaping particles are really small you’re gonna want a high CADR rated air purifier.
450 is the best CADR score and will completely eliminate vaping pollution. But you also have to think about room size too!
We’ll cover that next!
Getting an air purifier that’s the right size for your room is very important. You’ll waste electricity which will just be burning another hole in your pocket if you get this wrong.
So we just talked about CADR and there’s a basic way you can use it to figure out if you have the right room size.
You multiply CADR rating by 1.55 and this will tell you the square footage the air purifier is best for.
The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers came up with this formula and it's based off of 8 foot ceiling rooms.
IF you have a CADR rating of 1000 then it's perfect to clean the air of a room that’s 155 square feet. Easy right?
Type Of Filter And Air Cleaners
The type of filter you choose is really important because the particles in vapes are so small you need a filter that will hold onto the particles.
High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are the ones you should be looking for. it will lose at least 99.97% of Airborne allergens and pollutants. It can catch some of the smallest Airborne particles including vape particles.
UV filters use shortwave ultraviolet light to burn and kill tough pollutants like mold and germs. They aren't as good at catching air pollutants.
When they are used with HEPA filters they do an amazing job at destroying pollutants from vapes.

Electrostatic filters attract vape particles like a magnet attracts a paperclip. When the air particles hit this filter it traps them using electrostatic charges.
This type of filter doesn’t get cleaned.
You throw it away and buy a new one when it gets old.
Activated Carbon Filter
Activated carbon filters are the filters you want to use if you want to trap vape odors. This is another filter that you should use with another filter to catch some of the smaller particles.
Ionizer And Ozone Generators
This type of air filter makes ions or ozone that act as a charge just like the electrostatic filters. Vape particles and many other particles in the air have a neutral charge.
When the particle hits an ion or ozone that is charged they stick together.
These particles end up sticking around your floors, walls, and ceiling instead of floating in the air.WARNING: If you have respiratory issues please use a different type of filter because ozone air can irritate your lungs
Vaping can cause the filter to clog up because vaping is heavier and denser.
Most filters use paper and the vapor can destroy your filter quickly. You’ll find yourself needing to replace your filter more often.
Make sure you get an affordable filter.
Keeping your air purifier clean will make it last longer and save you a ton of money.
Check your filters at least once a month. Look for any damage and clean any dirt. Most air purifiers have a light that will let you know when you need to replace your filter.
I have an entire guide on cleaning air purifiers that you can read by clicking here.
Fan Speed Setting
Look for an air purifier that you can change how fast the fan will intake air. Vape clouds carry toxic chemicals or pesticides that you don’t want floating in the air.
Being able to choose your fan speed will give you more control over how much of the vape cloud gets directly sucked into the air purifier. High settings will work the best for vape smokers.

Automatic mode takes all the guesswork out using an air purifier.
The fan speeds up when your air quality is bad. As the air purifier cleans the air the fan speed will slow down.
This is great for vaping because the fan will kick on as soon as you start vaping.
Once you're done the fan will slow down and it will save you money because the fan won't be running on the highest setting the entire time.
The air purifier fan can be very loud especially when you got it working on full blast. If you’re trying to chill out and enjoy a smoke it might not be the greatest thing to have on full power.
Look for an air purifier that has less than 50 decibels of noise if you’re concerned about the noise and you can sacrifice some power.
Types Of Air Purifiers Best Used To Fight Vaping
The best air type of air purifier to deal with vaping are ones that use both the HEPA filter and the carbon filter.
The hepa filter can catch all of the small chemicals and pollutants that air floating around in the air. While the carbon filter will help to eliminate any of the odor left behind by the vape.
These two filters together are the PERFECT COMBINATION.
If you like the smell of vapes (I do actually like some of the smells) and all you're worried about are the chemicals. Go with an air purifier that has a HEPA filter only.
That will be more than enough to clean the air where you are vaping.
